Josie's Birthday

Josie is our young friend from Columbia, a recent graduate of Columbia University, now doing a Masters in Maths here in Cambridge. Today was her birthday and we took her to lunch in Grantchester. After several rainy days, we had sun and wind and a good day for walking.

Grantchester is about a mile from Wolfson, down a narrow road by College playing fields.

The hedge of brambles and May is grey but soon will be covered with blossoms.

Those tall skinny trees (maybe Poplar) used all over Europe make me think of soldiers, standing straight and tall to form a border.
Lunch at The Orchard was delicious and we could look out our window and dream of warmer days and tea under the apple trees. We also thought about the famous people who have hung out here ( http://www.orchard-grantchester.com/history/)

Another place where we can anticipate enjoying warmer weather is this pub.

Imagine the trees greening up!
On the wall opposite is this popular image of Walt Whitman but I doubt he was here.

Walking back along the footpath to Newnham, we saw a beautiful rainbow, but no cows.

In Newnham, Josie and I posed under this beautiful golden pyracantha arbor

The afternoon view was spectacular as we walked into Sheeps Green where we saw many swans and ducks.

And into the City where Josie and I did some errands. It was a great day!
