Spain 2018 III

We only had a short time in Madrid. Two nights in this lovely hotel--the Villa Real

With a welcome gift!

I look happier than my colleagues

Kevin looks very comfortable sitting in the lobby.

We could view the bustling city from our balcony

And we had a fantastic day exploring the city. Francis was thoughtful to suggest the big art museum, Reina Sofia, where I was gratified to see work by my favorite new painter, the Spanish José Gtierrez Solana. I first encountered him in the lovely garden exhibit in the Tate in 2016.

We loved the "Merry Go Round" by Olga Sacharoff (1881-1967)--especially the little dog doing somersaults! I enjoy making discoveries like this in art.

When we left the museum, there was a huge line waiting to get in. We were happy we had gone early in the day.

We spent the afternoon walking around this marvelous city--not so hot as Barcelona. It is the highest city in Europe!  We got lost several times but Francis is a wonderful guide in cities and helped us find our way.

We had a nice meal in this trendy restaurant.

And back to our hotel , our last night in Spain, and a good sleep.

For an early departure to Columbia after a great time!
