Sunday in London

On Sunday morning, we ordered a cab which made it easily to the train station where we bought tickets, and soon we were on the train to London, about an hour on a non-express.

We got off at King's Cross and tried to take Circle however that line was closed so we had to figure out another route to Mile End.

When we came out of the Mile End tube stop, Helen was waiting for us and drove us to their cozy flat in Clarendon Close. Sorry I didn't take photos but we had such a good time there; first opening Christmas gifts together. Lucy enjoyed this part and helped everyone open their gifts. She was appreciative of everything, especially the books. She is going to be good reader!

Then we had a super lunch--minestrone soup, a cheese tray with crackers, egg salad and green salad, olives, good bread, and for dessert a delicious Victoria Cake plus the olive oil, rosemary, chocolate chip cake that I made from Laura's receipt.

After tea, we were off with Scooter Lucy leading the way. She is fearless going very fast but, at the same time, knowing to stop at the curbs. She did like looking back to check that we were still behind her.

An occasional fall but then she pops back up with a big smile!

We walked through lovely neighborhoods and parks, eventually walking along Regents Canal.

Here Lucy is taking a little rest, letting Helen help push the scooter.

We ended up at the Isle of Dogs where the old Docks used to be.

I have never thought of London as a skyscraper city. In fact you don't see them in the City of London, but here is a spectacular sky scape, Canary Wharf, the land developed as an "enterprize zone," a commercial space.

and residential with many homes along the water.
We then boarded the Hop-on, Hop-off boat down to Greenwich and back.

An interesting industrial site next to Greenwich.
We saw The Shard, that tall slice of glass in progress which will be the tallest building in the EU and will house business offices, and beyond, a small quadrant of The London Eye
Lucy, as always, is the BEST GIRL in London!

It was a lovely gloaming and we ended up here,

where we caught a bus back to Mile End. We went to the neighborhood Fish House where the Drurys treated us to a delicious Fish and Chips dinner

Kevin and I made ourselves back to King's Cross where we ran into another Wolsonian, David from Norway. We boarded a train together and soon were joined by a young woman carrying a tiny dog. She sounded American but turned out to be Greek--her accent came from the American school she attended in Athens. She is a big animal vet and was returning to Newmarket where is horse country. We enjoyed our ride back.
