Suffolk

In mid May we had another trip to the Norfolk coast, on the eastern side of England, on a bus with friends from Wolfson.

We stopped for  coffee in this lovely town (can't remember the name now) in a lovely coffee shop.

We had  a perfect day for walking and this coast is a beauty.

Looking back, the grasses sport a lovely velvety color.

And the water a deep luxuriant blue

Lots of shells--some familiar, some exotic--on the sand I picked up some seaweed that had the lovely shape of an oak leaf.

Good signage points out the public paths

The beach is named Holkham as it is land attached to the local estate which some of our party visited but the foot paths are always public and protected by trusts.

Our group as we were leaving the coast.

We walked to Wells-Next-To-The-Sea

We watched the birds nesting on an island.

We walked up a hill to the lovely facaded Victoria Inn where we had a delicious lunch. I had white bait, tiny fried fish, a favorite dish that I never see in the US.

Inside I caught a glimpse of Queen Victoria

After lunch we walked into the Holkham Estate via an avenue of dead gorgeous trees

We passed this cottage, maybe for a caretaker, maybe where the elderly gardener lives.

And deer grazing--these would be harvested for venison, quite popular in UK.

Holkham Hall

And leaving we passed a cricket game. Those are friends, Tom and Elizabeth.
