Adventure with Lynn III

Lynn and I took two trips to London. On one day we met Lucy and Helen in Coram's Fields, London's Mecca for children, and had a good lunch!

Fat Sheep to sit on!

Lynn and I stopped for coffee before going into a favorite bookstore Persephone. Lynn made several purchases.

Then Lynn and I made our way over to 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields to visit the Sir John Soane's House/Museum. He lived 1753-1837, became an architect and bought three houses which he turned into his home and an "Academy of Architecture" a place where architects could visit and study.

It is a spectacular place,  gothic and full of art, including 2 original series by Hogarth (The Rake's Progress and An Election). They have an extremely popular night tour which I plan on taking Kevin to one day.  The red on the right is Pomeranian red, the color used for the British telephone booth--the design also comes from Soane.

Interesting architecture designed to display the interesting objects.

Afterwards, we headed over to Libertys, decked out for the upcoming Jubilee and had a great browse.

Maybe a young Sheik buying perfume for his wife!

I bought a small cross stitch pattern of the British Telephone Booth in honor of Sir John Soane's lasting genius and then we had a nice walk

Over to a very nice dinner at Andrew Edmunds prefaced with the best apple aperitif!

Another day, we visited Tate Britain.
Nice memories in this room of 19th century British art--Helen's favorite room with the stunning Preraphaelite Art.

And, then onto more modern art. I liked seeing this BOY
copying the canvas.

We saw Chris  Ofili's "No Woman No Cry"

This scultor was one of the finalists for the Turner Prize. Kevin and I saw her pretty feminine work in Newcastle.

Even the stairwells are eye candy!

After the Tate, we made our way over to the V & A, passing an interesting wedding--the bridesmaids dresses were vintage and lovely.

Every year the V & A mounts a great exhibit. This year it was modern British Design which we thoroughly enjoyed. I just longed for Paul who would have loved the part about 20th century music. Brett would have enjoyed the fashion segment--Mary Quant, Alexander McQueen, and Sassoon!

Afterwards we enjoyed the Friday night festivities. We liked the wonky chairs in the courtyard!

And a delicious dinner in a beautiful room!

Afterwards we walked through the costume gallery admiring many exhibits.
And then back to Kings Cross via London Tube!

Lynn was up early the next am, back to USA. She took the sunny weather with her....
