The weekend before, Trudie and I drove to Brasstown, NC to attend a Paperdoll Portrait workshop at John C. Campbell School. As I was thinking about Thanksgiving and family, I decided to make mine based on my Grandmother Ella Haltiwanger Wingard. Trudie did hers on her father, a farmer in the Netherlands. And, here we are proudly holding them.

So I had a quick turnaround for getting house ready and cooking. Laura came over on Monday night and we made the cranberry chutney. Heather came on Wednesday night and was a big help. Here are the guest name cards resting on my Canadian porte-couteaux and the Thanksgiving Day menu.

It was a gorgeous day and the house looked lovely.
The turkey cooked perfectly!
I also forgot to take enough photos. I don't have one of everyone at the table.
Here is dessert!
And the small table set up in the Den
After lunch we had a fire, talked, and played games--Pit and Sleeping Queens.
It was good to reminisce with Carol and James about our days in Amman.
But Disaster lurked. People left and we all went to go to bed.
Wyatt came running down the stairs to tell us that Jake was stuck in the bathroom! The door latch would not work and we could not get him out. So, I called the one person I knew who would save Jake.
SYLVIE!
