FPG arrived one day early from South Pasadena and we started our journey at the CAE airport but when we got there, we found out there were problems with the airplane going to CLT. But, as we were so early, the airline sent us to CLT in a shuttle with one other passenger. Those passengers who arrived later had to be rerouted.

So we crossed the Atlantic and were met at our Air BnB near St Pancras station by Helen Bredin. She brought delicious snacks, plain and chocolate croissants and interesting juice drinks. We talked for awhile and then FPG went to East End with Helen and Kevin and I napped.
We woke about five and walked over to the Doric Arch pub (which Jim had recommended). It was packed but luckily a couple was leaving and beckoned us over to take their seats which were good on a balcony and all three of the pub's tellys were visible from where we sat.

It was the World Cup semi-finals and England was playing Croatia. So much excitement--all the Brits standing for "God Save the Queen." The main cheering section was right under the balcony with the die-hard fans standing and shouting, sometimes obscenely!

(Meanwhile Francis was watching with Jim and Helen and Lucy on Benn Street.) Sadly, it was not to be and England lost to the underdog Croatia.
But we enjoyed our supper and then went back to Air BnB and to sleep.
We had a good night, then off to a nice breakfast across the street from the bustling Euston Street tube stop. Then we walked to a Lloyds bank and then to Orange to get phones working.
We met Francis and Lucy at the Royal Academy of Art for lunch and the 250th Summer Exhibition, "Everything Must Go." It was excellent and so much fun!
Francis enjoyed checking out the prices of the entries in the little catalog book. This giant mural Seven Trollies, Six and A Half Stools, Six Portraits, Eleven Paintings, and Two Curtains by David Hockney is not for sale.
This one by Banksy, the graffiti artist, commenting on the Brexit vote, has a 350 million pounds price!

This little plaster of paris face in the corner was 350, 000 pounds--must be a joke!

We had a lovely walk through Victoria Park and delicious dinner at a local indian restaurant with the Drury Bredin family--so sorry I did not get photos there.
We visited the Drury home and heard Lucy practice her pieces as she has a piano test the next day.
Kevin and I returned to our air bnb which we did not like. We had walked over 8 miles, according to my iPhon
The next morning, Helen and Francis met us at St Pancras where we enjoyed breakfast at Quotidian.
This blimp was flying over London as Trump was in town and not making friends.
So there was a huge protest in London!
We soon boarded the train to Paris. Our seats were not together but that was okay. It was first class and I had promised Kevin English newspapers; however, we should have been in Business class to get those. What a disappointment as it was K's birthday and I had hoped he would have that pleasure. Delicious food was served and Kevin celebrated with a small bottle of wine!

The train stopped outside Paris for about 45 minutes as there was a suspicious piece of luggage that had to be investigated. We had reserved a car to take us from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon. They called and said they could not wait on us so when we finally arrived at Gare du Nord and stood in the very long queue for a taxi to Gare de Leon and finally reached Gare de Lyon, we had missed our connecting train. I stood in several lines and finally found a very nice, friendly French man who spoke English and helped us. We had to make new arrangements. We caught an afternoon train to Perpignon .
While waiting we had a nice lunch in the station. Then boarded the train which took us through some lovely countryside. We had nice seats covered with lovely French blue stripes and good service but it was a long day.

We arrived at Perpignan at midnight and were taken to a hotel at the train station. We had very nice rooms and left Perpignan the next am.
We arrived in Barcelona and had a great surprise when Jake showed up at our hotel, the elegant Hotel Colon.
We had a great dinner at a nearby Vietnamese restaurant.
I loved the paper lanterns on the ceiling.
Our room was large with enough room for all four of us!
The next morning we walked around the city and toured the Gaudi museum as well as the Picasso Museum. Picasso lived in Barcelona when young so you see the early Picasso here. I was particularly impressed with his series of paintings based on Velazquez' fascinating painting Las Meninas.
It was a Sunday and in front of our hotel and the Big Cathedral, there was dancing. Anybody could join but I was too hot and tired.
Walking down lovely streets in Barcelona.
That afternoon in a very hot and sweaty pub, we watched the Finals in the World Cup France vs Croatia.
Later that evening we had dinner in the rooftop restaurant of our hotel.
And watched a parade of French people celebrating their World Cup Victory!
Looking out in early morning of our Hotel at this big square and the big Cathedral before leaving Barcelona.
