Last Leg: Bergen to Oslo-4

We ended our cruise in Bergen, west of Oslo. Our crew unloaded our bags;

And we headed to

the excellent Det Hanseatiske Hotel!

In the lobby looking into bar.

Imagine how much Kevin and I enjoyed our big bed after a week on bunk beds! We missed the rocking of the ship somewhat but basked in the luxury of Det Hanseatiske Hotel

Bryggen, the part of the city where we stayed, is full of these beautiful restored wooden buildings. Our hotel actually used both of these buildings, connected by passages.

The front of these Reconstructed Hanseatic buildings are on the old quayside--notice the lovely scaffolding cover on the building sixth from the right.

Bergen is a city surrounded by seven mountains and a fjord. We went up Mt. Floyen in a scary funicular ( I always feel as if I am going headfirst into the landscape!).

There we saw baby dinosaurs and trolls

And enjoyed a walk in a lovely landscape!

Followed by a delicious dinner back in Bryggen.

After a good night we traveled from Bergen to Oslo. Usually there is a direct train journey but there were repairs being made on this day so we really lucked up and had quite an adventure, traveling on train, bus, and boat! What a lucky break for us as we had quite an adventure!

The train fast and comfy and took us through beautiful countryside.

We left the train for a bus and enjoyed spectacular views and lots of scary hairpin turns.

You can see how close we are to the edge of the road here.

And here is a hair pin curve--it was scary!

But so beautiful!

And then on a modern electric boat and we meandered  though amazing waters.

Somewhere along these waters along the Flam Valley

We enjoyed lunch on this boat.

And amazing views!

Interesting passengers

We ended in Flam where we had a wait and some interesting venues to explore--a postal museum

A shopping mall!

And places to hang out.

Back to a bus and on the last leg, we passed the big resort area of Norway. We saw cozy retreats and lots of snow to enjoy all those snowy sports!

At one point, we left the bus to experience these magnificent waterfalls.

An amazing trip!

Back in Oslo, Kevin and I visited the Edward Munch museum

Interesting will!

The young Munch

The older Munch (and better painter)

And back in the Museum!

Thrilling to see so much of his work here!

We enjoyed Norway so much but Louis had one more trick up his sleeve!

Yea, Norwegian Airlines!

After a comfortable flight back and easy landing in Kennedy, we headed over to Terminal Five

And walked through this long tunnel

To end in the amazing newly restored  TWA Hotel

There was so much to see, including an exhibit of steward uniforms. Here is the Hot Pants design!

We had a good night there and after a delicious brunch at the bistro,
 we headed home.
